19 June 2007: Gumtree selects NTT Europe Online

UK's largest online classified site sows seeds for continued success with global managed hosting provider

NTT Europe Online, a managed hosting specialist, has been selected to host fast-growing online classifieds website, Gumtree.com, which recently overtook Amazon and MSN to be ranked 22nd among the UK’s largest websites. Working with Gumtree’s in-house technical team, NTT Europe Online has created a tailor-made web hosting solution to meet Gumtree’s strict quality, security and availability standards – ensuring the phenomenally popular site is always fast and available for its growing user base.

Gumtree.com initially began as a local online community notice board and now covers over 70 cities across 8 countries. The first classifieds site in the UK to launch integrated map technology to help users locate flatshares, rentals and stuff for sale ‘at a glance’, Gumtree.com has also met a real appetite among users for embedding YouTube videos into traditional classified ads. Its recent expansion into Asia and the success of its new tools and ‘add ons’ have boosted UK listings to a record 10 million. With such extraordinary growth, and so many users relying on the site for information it is imperative Gumtree can offer the highest availability possible in order to safeguard a quality customer experience.

Phil Chambers, Product Manager from Gumtree said: “Since our inception we’ve experienced unprecedented year-on-year growth and have built up a global community of users – a community we are both proud and protective of. We pride ourselves on offering the highest quality service in terms of serving speed, availability, security and innovative new products. In order to future-proof our development and success we’ve selected a hosting provider with a global network, a global reputation and an ability to scale with us no matter what direction we choose to go in.”

As Gumtree continues to innovate and deliver additional services, the company plans to use NTT Europe Online’s Smart Content Delivery service – a global network of cache servers that will give Gumtree huge additional on-demand bandwidth and the potential to deliver further rich media content to its customers.

Damian Skendrovic, Regional Director, NTT Europe Online said: “We’ve been working with Gumtree to help ensure they have a reliable and secure hosting environment on which to build their service. Working closely with their technical team we continue to adapt and develop the hosting platform to accommodate Gumtree’s aggressive innovation roadmap. Supporting such a fast-growing business is an exciting challenge and we will continue to help Gumtree improve the experience they offer their global customer base.”
