NTT Communications’ commitment to applied research and development is exceptional, running to several billion US dollars annually.
The mission involves a continual drive to focus on fundamental technologies for the development of next-generation network architecture based on comprehensive network design concepts with a three to five year time horizon and for the realisation of new types of services.
The ten year time horizon involves continuing research into fundamental technologies that form the bedrock of infrastructure and architecture concepts on which the Internet and telecommunications industries operate.

NTT carries out basic research and development activities at three laboratory groups in a wide range of fields, including some of the most advanced ICT research in the world. Our aim is to create a “new world of communication brought about by sharing of contextualised knowledge” in a “broadband and ubiquitous society”. NTT is undertaking R&D to create new communication services and to foster foundational technologies that will realise communication networks to support these services.
