Job purpose
Responsible for the resolution of hardware issues, deployment of new systems and reinstallation of systems as needed.
Responsibilities and duties
- Install and maintain servers as our customers grow
- Respond, action and resolve requests / faults logged both internally and externally
- Install switches, routers and network hardware
- Fix broken servers
- Active monitoring of all servers
- Monitor all DC resources (power, cooling and space)
- Work with Customer Operation Engineers in configuring customer requirements
- Co-ordinate Data Centre Tours
- Manage access requests for the data centres
- General housekeeping to maintain a clean and tidy environment
- Escalation of problems and issues to the Operations Team
- Work closely with 3rd party service providers
- Being involved with the BCP
Skills and experience
The candidate must be able to demonstrate:
Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment
Experience in troubleshooting and installing operating systems, networking and software
Initial understanding of customers systems and response times based on upon information held for each customer
A general understanding of networking
Working in an customer thinking environment
Familiarity with all computer systems
Excellent technical skills
Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or when on call
Working in line with Best Practice in complex environments and within tight time constraints
Management of effective and timely problem resolution
Ability to adapt and influence in a rapidly changing environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop and build relationships
